proper Candle Care
How to Properly Care for Your Aurelia & Company Candle
To burn a candle is to light a moment. Make it intentional.
There is something almost alchemical about the way a candle transforms a room. The soft flicker, the slow unfolding of fragrance, the way a familiar space can suddenly feel warmer…more intimate…more alive. At Aurelia & Company, each candle is crafted to be an experience—not just a scent. And like all finely made things, a bit of care ensures it burns beautifully, safely, and lasts as long as it should.
Below are our best practices for tending to your candle, so that each burn feels like a ritual—unhurried, immersive, and deeply yours.
1. Trim the Wick (Every Time)
Before each burn, trim your wick to about 1/4 inch.
This keeps your flame steady and prevents:
Sooting on the jar
Excessive flame height
Mushroom-shaped wick tips
Uneven or fast burning
We recommend a wick trimmer (a pair of small scissors will also do).
Think of this step as preparing the candle to open its story again.
2. Burn in 2–4 Hour Intervals
For an even flame and long-lasting fragrance, limit each burn to 2–4 hours.
Anything longer can lead to:
Wick shifting
Carbon build-up
Excess heat around the vessel
Your candle performs best when it has room to rest and reset - allow approximately 5 hours before lighting again.
3. Avoid Drafts & Breeze
A candle flame is like breath—delicate, alive, responsive.
Keep your candle away from:
Open windows
Fans
Vents
This helps prevent uneven burning and black soot on the glass.
4. If possible - Snuff, Don’t Blow
When you're ready to extinguish the flame, gently snuff the wick.
Blowing can create smoke and tiny embers—breaking the spell of a beautiful burn.
A quiet extinguish keeps the experience calm, intentional, ceremonial.
5. Safety, Always
I design my candles for beauty and safety, but flame is still flame.
Please remember to:
Keep away from children and pets.
Never leave a burning candle unattended.
Stop burning once 1/2 inch of wax remains at the bottom.
7. Reuse the Vessel
Once your candle has finished its final burn, the jar can live again.
Ideas for repurposing:
Apothecary match holder
Vanity or desk cup
Small plant pot (hello, tiny succulent)
Ritual herb or tea container
Beauty should never be single-use.
Make It a Ritual
Caring for your candle isn’t just maintenance—it’s a moment of pause, of presence, of small intentional luxury.
Light your candle when:
You need grounding
You’re calling in stillness
You’re setting a mood
You’re honoring a season or a shift
Treat each burn as an invitation to slow down and savor.
Your space deserves that.
You deserve that.
